"Sunset" scarf - 2016

The Shetland landscape, with its exciting range of naturally occurring colours and textures, is always a huge source of inspiration for me.

 

I want to reflect all these aspects of the landscape within my textiles; the extreme lighting, the fast-changing colours and patterns of the sky and the beauty of Shetland sunsets.

 

For my handwoven maxi scarf, I have incorporated dramatic, bright colours similar to those we often experience in summer evenings in Shetland. The yarn used for the scarf is 100% locally manufactured Shetland wool, some of which has been handspun by myself.

 

The reds and oranges contrast against the neutral grey background in the same way lights are reflected off the surface of the sea.
